Costumes

For the lead male:
(Present Scenes)
- Dark clothes
- Nothing formal (like a suit) as he is a young adult.
- Also has to be casual/everyday-wear because in the song he is realising that it time to say goodbye: and you wouldn’t dress-up for that because it‘s spontaneous.
- I think plain black shirt (with sleeves rolled up)or a dark jacket and dark blue/black jeans with black/dark coloured converse; smart-casual style.
(Flashback Scenes)
- It will be the opposite of his clothing in the non-flashbacks. So, he will have brighter coloured clothes - light coloured jeans, slogan t-shirt, colourful hoody…etc
For the female lead:
(Present Scenes)
- Well she’s dead so I will go with traditional memorial clothing i.e. something like a white dress that long as well.
- I will have the girl not wearing shoes because it will seem like she’s asleep; and that will go with the ‘…knowing you’ll come back to me…’ lyrics.
(Flashback Scenes)
- It will have to be eye-catching clothes
- Colours like red, green, light blue

Extras:
- Type of clothing is not so important as they are not the main characters but I have to make sure that it doesn’t steal attention from the female lead.

Evaluation of Costumes
MALE LEAD(present):
The meaning of ML wearing dark clothes is to reflect the negative emotions he is currently going through - whether it be sadness for her death, regret that he didn't get to know her more or even anger that she left 'before her time' (i think anger should be included for the emotions he gets because in the song there's the line '...i spent the last age just ignoring you...' and generally you would ignore someone because you are angry with them). The darkness (of the clothes) should exhibit his mourning for the death of the female lead (FL). Also, traditionally, people wear dark attire for funerals as a sign of respect for the deceased; this is his sign of respect for FL. Mainly, it is his morbidity that should be conveyed to the audience.
(Flashbacks) ML would have colourful clothing for these scenes as i want the contrast between life without FL and life with FL to be definite i.e. when he's with her he is full of life and this is expressed through he colourful choice of clothing. And then when she's not alive anymore...he has lost her so he too has lost the life in him - symbolic meanings of life and death and the contrast of the both should be apparent.
FEMALE LEAD (present):
The reason why I want her to wear a white dress is to convey the bleakness of the world not having her in it and it is important that the audience knows that she's dead (otherwise there will be no point in the song). The connotations of her in the scene should differ from herself in the flashback scenes just to show the disparity between her being alive and not. Symbolically, it would go into tradition because of the ideas of white being related to death.
(Flashbacks) She will be wearing colourful, attractive clothing as well - this could show the similarity between herself and ML and would show that, because they are similar in terms of attire, ML is losing a part of himself too. Really I want this because I want the audience to understand why the ML can’t forget her; and also for it to be in contrast with her white funeral dress - so in a way the audience remembers how she use to be and grieves/feels sorry for her death too - like what the ML is going through. I want, in the flashbacks, for her to be full of life. Bright colours would reflect her optimistic mood which is what makes her so attractive and unforgettable to the guy.
